FYI Greg is stuck dealing with a production issue and will pick around lunchtime. He knows that Steve is currnely on auto-pick and he'll be right up at 5.02 as soon as he picks 4.11

I like the Vernon Davis pick, Rob snatched him right before my autopick. If I did not like Ryan in rd5 would have taken Vern.

My auto picks got screwed and I took Olsen by mistake so I'll have to sweat out a WR. Jeff, can you fix Olsen to TE?

Some of us really know baseball...not just fantasy #s and then some of us eat sleep and breath NFL when the season turns to fall. I have seen quite a few comments on here that make me think most of the guys here are baseball guys...lol.

Vernon Davis caught a grand total of 12 passes over the final 7 games of last year. Those coincidentally were the games that Colin Kaepernick started. Good luck with that pick

Also, about the VJax pic. He was definitely in consideration when I chose my two vet WRs but it came down to trusting the QBs that are throwing the football to those guys.

Davis also had a ridiculously good playoff stretch w CP at QB and is lining up at WR often in camp. Trusting Palmer and Schaub compared to Freeman? That's odd since Freeman had the best 2012 of all. Either way all 3 are #qbpurgatory

I'd agree about me being more of a baseball follower but my fantasy perfomance would indicate otherwise.

Davis had good playoff numbers last year (or do you stop watching football after week 16 when fantasy ends) but maybe I bought into the touts.

Thanks, Claudio.. I didn't think I had enough Giants... :) Needed the insurance with the unproven Wilson.

Exactly as I was thinking Kev - although you might have headaches trying to decide which one to start if they start splitting time evenly.

Sorry for the delay...The guy in front of me took my DE and I had to re-think my whole strategy

To the VJax argument - saying Josh Freeman is in the same class as Palmer and Schaub is ludicrous unless you are strictly talking fantasy numbers. I would not want Palmer anywhere near my real NFL team but he is the best PASSER that Fitz has had since his days with Warner. Schaub and Palmer are guys who complete 60 - 65% of their passes and Freeman will not be a starting QB in the NFL for long. Put that in the paper...I said it here 1st.

Oh and go ahead and put Davis outside. Most corners will shut him right down minus the occasional jump ball.

I know some of these names have not been drafted yet but I'm talking about real NFL skills not fantasy value.

It's a crutch argument to try and say that any of them are really in much of a different situation when you are saying you wouldn't want Palmer near your own NFL team but that Freeman is in the same class because of fantasy numbers? I'm lost. Palmer being Fitz best QB since Warner is saying you found a Coors Light in the fridge after 3 years of Keystone Light.

Schaub is a game manager who doesn't get enough attempts to be relevant, and Palmer hasn't even been above average in 7 years. What's funny is I essentially agree with you about Freeman and his lack of future potential AND most people have Fitz ranked ahead of V-Jax (Dre is a little more 50/50) here but at the end of the day we are talking about three of the twelve worst starting QB's in the NFL.

For the record, Davis a 6'3'' and ran 4.38 40 time in college. Which to put in comparison Mike Wallace is 6 feet tall and ran a 4.33, Danny Amendola is 5'10'' and ran a 4.58, Randall Cobb is 5'10'' ran a 4.46 time, Dwayne Bowe is 6'2'' and ran 4.51. Trying to name a wide array of "types" of wideouts here for this - The argument being, Davis is going to have absolutely no problem with NFL cornerbacks, whether he is outside, in the slot or lined up on the formation as TE. If your argument against Davis is the end of the regular season, and you want to entirely ignore the playoffs, then that's on you. If your argument against Davis is that he isn't WR calibar skill level, talent, hands, speeds, route running, then you are just completely wrong.

All that said, because Vernon is part of a run heavy offense it certainly does cap his actual upside, I agree with that. With the way Smith limited the offense though, I could certainly see Davis finishing as a top 4 TE based on CK's ability to develop the offense on a higher level. He's certainly not on the levels of Graham or Gronk, but that's based on situation, not the outrageous skill set that made him the highest drafted tight end of all time.

When I look at TE's I think there are three things to consider:
1. talent/skills
2. How he uses said talent
3. How the team utilizes him

You often see hulking TE's used very effectively and gifted TE's hardly used at all. Davis is an excellent example. I had him in one of my leagues last year and he did disappear toward the end of the season. I think CK would go to his legs when in trouble as opposed to his TE. This might change this year as the coaches will probably want CK to pass when in trouble and stay healthy. I would not be surprised to see a great season from Davis.

When push comes to shove, I would prefer to pick talent.

Davis was used more by Alex Smith then by CK. By comparison, Martellus Bennett had more catches and TD's than Davis last year, and that's unusual......If CK is going to use his legs instead of his arm, Davis could have another low year.

Ennis! the pox on you. I had set up a 1 man queue for my pick for Kenny Britt and you snagged him one pick before me. Clearly, you are a GENIUS :D

Dave (poeman) and Claudio I think are tied for snaring the most players from my queues before my pick.

Other than my own, I think I liked Rob's (lacuna) team best after round 6. After 11 I like Rich L's (Rockland Raiders).

Really Brian? You took BOTH guys from my 2-player RB queue for rd 12 - Bilal and DThomas. Time to re-stock.

All our queues are getting crushed. Names are disappearing while I'm looking at them. Looks like it's going to be a very competitive league. Can't wait for the season to begin.

FYI, Tom was away on business all week and I believe is flying home (Cleveland to Philadelphia) tonight. Don't expect a pick until later.
