ACS 2011 Gridiron Draft Discussion
Re: ACS 2011 Gridiron Draft Discussion
Is it me or does Wrigley seem to talk on this thing more than anybody? Wrigley, do you actually work?

The law firm of Manning and Manning, huh?

Kevin loves his Giants.

With the doubt in Indy over Manning's status, I had to step up and reassure Doug Flutie faithful that "MANNING" would definitely suit up for us WEEK 1 this year, I GUARANTEE!Claudio1965 wrote:The law firm of Manning and Manning, huh?
Doh! Last year's runner up DFT roster featured Nicks, Manningham, and Bradshaw.jeffg wrote:Kevin loves his Giants.

I'm probably out of commission for the rest of today/tonight. Headed into a 2 hour meeting, followed by a work function. Being 11 spots away, not going to leave a queue. I'll make my next pick tomorrow AM.
Re: ACS 2011 Gridiron Draft Discussion
I hate to say this but I believe Richard Randazzo at this point in the draft is my only competition
Hey Bubbba - don't forget to draft your back-up kicker next round!

Can't tell if that's sarcastic or not! You're gooood Wrigs!

Seriously - I did a mid drat assessment looking at the grid and I like your players. Seems like every other team has holes and questions.dazman56 wrote:Can't tell if that's sarcastic or not! You're gooood Wrigs!
Re: ACS 2011 Gridiron Draft Discussion
I find fantasy football to be such a crapshoot after the early rounds after the top tier players are taken. To me most of the Wr and Rb players left are indistinguishable from on another. Maybe that is why I did a Def so early. One of these seasons my old school approach of taking two top Rb will pay off again. Daz is the only other team to go Rb in rd 1&2 but not sure Bradshaw is worth that high a pick. However I think Daz's guys Ocho or Plax are good risk/reward type options and he does have a solid core around them so he could be the early team to beat. Steve, Tom, and Claudio always seem to take players I also am targeting so I like their teams for what it is worth. Brian has solid Wr, looks like he will be Mr West Coast offense (Wr in flex) this year. Our two rookies look solid. Based on what I see so far, I do not see a team to take lightly, even one that always grab a K 7 rounds too early.

Stick to baseball Jeff
No west coast offense here. Having depth at RB is my bag baby! The top 10 RBs drafted never finish as the the top ten in fantasy points due to injury and other factors.
Stinkin Steve just auto-picked the next two horses I was about to add to my stable though

i knew i was going to slapped for picking a def soooo early, but at that point i knew that guys i had my eyes on probably wern't going to get taken by my next turn, and there really wasn't much of a predicted point difference between my hopefuls and the guys down 2-3 spots anyway. I figured it would be nice to get a #1 ranked something to ensure I'm getting points from somewhere.. the point diff between the 40th and 45th WR is going to be much less than the diff between 1st and 5th DEF (at least thats my thinking). seeing as I went winless last year, i had to do something different!
Re: ACS 2011 Gridiron Draft Discussion
I'm usually in the boat of defense with your second to last pick, kicker with your last pick but it really does seem like the Steelers are *almost worth taking in Rounds 8-10. However, no other defense should be taken before the second to last round since the variance and unpredictability is way too much to deal with on a year to year basis.
Yeah I loved my Tolbert pick Brian, shocked he lasted that long, he's been the 3rd down back, goalline back and the guy Norv trusts. Mathews has more upside for sure, but Tolberts floor seems like 800/8

Also, I'd like Jeff to sell me on his pick of Josh Freeman that high. I respect the opinion, but I have to disagree. He would have to take a very giant step forward in terms of his productivity to justify the spot. Considering his weapons are far from elite, his schedule is tougher this season and his peripherals would suggest that his INT rate is only going to go up I feel like this might be a year for regression to the mean of Freeman.
He's no doubt going to be a good NFL QB, but a lot of people are really predicting a big step forward and it confuses me. Time will tell.

Re: ACS 2011 Gridiron Draft Discussion
Freeman was the 9th Qb taken in the draft which is about right. I have been on vacation all week and have been loading autopick queues each night for the next day. Looking at the Tuesday picks, i set that queue when I was 15 picks away, and based on how the draft had set by the time that pick was processed with 3 teams left in need of a Qb, had i been manually drafting I could have easily went with another position and still got a comparable Qb (Ryan) two round later. No excuses... I'll stand by the Freeman pick. His 20-30 yards rushing per game is like an additional 50-75 passing yards. He was NFL player of the week twice last year, some touts have him higher, some lower so I have heard arguments both ways. I'll take my chances and hope Freeman proves me right week 1 vs Steve.

I think the draft is flying by, we will be done mid week. Great job by all to keep this moving, we've had no complaints about stall outs.
Just saying this to get under his skin..... Kevin is this year's Todd!

My annual late round reminder that our league has a cap of 6 WR, 6 RB, 3 QB, 2 Def, 2 K.
ESPN will not allow me to load the rosters if someone goes over the limit. Draftime will let you draft more, but if someone does draft a player to go over, and I notice (or someone brings it to my attention) I will back out that pick and let the draft continue with the next selection. The offender can redraft a substitute while the draft is in progress or can fill in their voided roster spot via waivers/free agency if it the draft ends.

Crap now Bubba will take extra long on his next pick since he had a 3rd kicker all queued upjeffg wrote:My annual late round reminder that our league has a cap of 6 WR, 6 RB, 3 QB, 2 Def, 2 K.

ya know... complain about people who dont play to the end, and then complain when people do..!? wtf? how bout i set my entire roster to BENCH. will that make you happy? NO - you will complain about that too! i dont want him to win you [BLEEP] bleep. in case you are not in Zzz cruise control zzZ anymore, you'd notice you have more to worry about then my buddy. this is why i dont do the chatboards. not because im an inactive member, or some other camoflauge excuse brian can make up, but because i see the [BLEEP], and encouraging its continuance with additional acknowledgement leaves me with no one to blame but myself.....Wrigbone wrote:Kevin is too busy making moves in baseball trying to help his buddy beat mejeffg wrote:Just saying this to get under his skin..... I guess I was the one who got under his skin Jeff. I was just kidding around Kev but in lieu of your rant..."The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

Unless there is tremendous movement in the draft overnight, I'll probably won't be making my Round 14 pick until 6pm tomorrow night. (In Ohio at a client meeting tomorrow - then flying home).
Re: ACS 2011 Gridiron Draft Discussion
Set my queue last night so you guys didn't have to wait for me this morning. BUTTTTTT
Re: ACS 2011 Gridiron Draft Discussion
What is the point of taking a DST with one of your top ten picks and then taking another one...wasted picks!

In reviewing the schedules, I will probably use my second defense 8 times this season. How often will your 4th RB or 5th WR play? I'm hoping that mine never have to be put into the lineup. Having two of the top 10 defenses is a luxury but I like the idea. We're talking about the 14th round here.
Re: ACS 2011 Gridiron Draft Discussion
Sorry Rockland - I know you are new to FF. Some people around here have been doing it for years and still do it wrong...."That's what she said" LOL. Think of the draft like a poker or blackjack game. It kind of ruins it when someone isn't playing right even if it is just a casual game.
The truth is, and Steve back me up on this, nobody should ever take a kicker before the last round and rarely can an argument be made to take a DST before the 15th. You cannot predict week to week which DST is going to score well so good luck with the rotation thing there...it will frustrate the [BLEEP] out of you. You don't need to know fantasy football or even NFL football for that matter to understand this. Just look at the history and do the math. You should be spending middle rounds "buying lottery tickets" on guys with potential upside and/or handcuffing your best RBs IMHO
