ACS Hackers 2013 draft discussion.
Re: ACS Hackers 2013 draft discussion.
Please chill. I believe he was in traveling both yesterday evening and tonight. Our drafts get quicker every year. During the work day he'd turn it around in better time.

Traveling?
Re: ACS Hackers 2013 draft discussion.
I'd like to stress that this is 10x better than a few years ago, but it's an addiction, it's so much fun checking the page and when the draft gets such a smooth flow going it sucks to have it cut. We literally could do this bad boy in 5 or 6 days if we trimmed the fat or just got everyone to move faster.
But, seriously again, I'd like to stress how much better than this is than years ago, I have to acknowledge that because I know Jeff has worked his ass off to make it this way.

After getting raped of so many of my picks the last wrap, I'm really happy Latos and Lawrie fell to me. Latos is better than at least 3-5 of the SP's drafted ahead of him. I guess he's boring? Lester went way too early given his sketchiness last season and career long showing of never lowering his WHIP to elite levels.
Trumbo worries me with OBP as such an important category, but the power is real and as we've mentioned before that lineup is deadly...
I feel this season more than others has mirrored some of my other leagues more so with less reaches and picks where I'm shocked. Hopefully it speaks to the research being done and the new blood joining being significantly smarter.

When I took Votto with my first pick I figured it gave me a little wiggle room to take a player with less than a sterling OBP. As you said, he's in a great lineup. He's gonna have guys on base every time he gets up. I also like Trumbo's position flexibility.

I won't make any picks using a stupid phone either.

Same here Slash.....using a phone to edit my queue last night cost me. I had no intention of taking Lester that early, but somehow I must have fat fingered something and boom, I had him.....

How many IT guys does it take to make a pick with a smartphone
This draft has turned to crap. It was fun while it lasted. You know what our drafts feel like? I'll offer up a metaphor of what it's like for me...
Your 12 years old and you have been waiting all month to go to Six Flags Great Adventure. You are thrilled every day it gets closer. On the drive you are thinking about all the rides you are gonna go on, which ones you will ride first, and which ones you will go on more than once. Then you finally get there and even the friggin bumper cars have a 2 hour wait. I feel like Clark Griswold and effin Wally World is closed for repairs.
Ironic how our fantasy drafts mimic real life. There are always a few clowns that [BLEEP] things up for everyone, and there are always a few people who will defend them, and then there are the rest of us in favor of the death penalty...lol.

He was on my list as well Wrigs, but I didn't think he'd still be there when it comes round to me again.....oh well...
Then again, 2 Philly pitchers is enough for me....

Re: ACS Hackers 2013 draft discussion.
What a difference a few years make; Roy Halliday and Ryan Howard both taken in the eight round.
Re: ACS Hackers 2013 draft discussion.
The upside is a top 10 - 20 pick at #95 so I would not be able to let Halladay slide any further. In a way I hope the new guy did me a favor by taking him but the Phillies need him so I hope the rest of your team sucks
Ryan Howard could be a nice little sleeper as well...doncha think!?!
Rodney scares me and I had to force myself to pull the trigger on that pick but watching him in the Classic he looks so dominant. And then when I looked up his numbers. How the [BLEEP] did the guy go from a career 4.something ERA to 0.60?!? BTW - is that the best ERA and WHIP of the modern era with that many innings in a season?
Jeff already shunned my R.A. [BLEEP] pick saying there is no way he is repeating last year and I bet he would say the same about Rodney. But hey, I don't need them to repeat that just be in the ballpark, so to speak
Nobody expects Trout to = or better last year but as long as he doesn't stray too far I will be happy and what if he does exceed last year?
OMG - this freakin website is [BLEEPING] my pitcher's name!

Just copied this out of the message board above us. Now these guys are serious...
Slacker penalty: Evil Commish reserves the authority to impose reduced clock time upon any manager who repeatedly misses his/her turn. Such an extreme measure should not be necessary, given the auto-pick options available in Draftime.

I like your R.A. pick. Why do we always assume there will be a regression? He will dominate the AL for at least the first time though the league. He's a unique pitcher who's gone through some real down times and toughed it out. I hope he does well....but not too well

Re: ACS Hackers 2013 draft discussion.
It's a fascinating revisiting question, but now in 2013, I wonder if Jeff would ever consider just scheduling the draft for a Sunday at 8pm and spending 2 hours doing it. I was a proponent for this years ago, but honestly I LOVE this format now it's so much fun.
The lag to me, pretty much just shows general disinterest from people not necessarily them being lazy or inconsiderate. If you love this league, love fantasy baseball, then how are you not salivating over the opportunity of picking the second you're on the clock? Or setting up an automatic queue selection when you are 2 or 3 away if you know a certain guy you definitely want. Oh well, I'll never know the answer, it's the same stuff every year.
When Kevin comes on here and actually gives reasons for not picking quickly, it's nice of him. I actually appreciate it as a fellow owner.
I think I've made about 75% of my picks via smart phone since the 2011 draft. It's not like Drafttime.com has a confusing application or something? You just use the browser as if its your laptop? I'm seriously confused as to how a smart phone would hamper anyone from doing what they want on their phone.
Anyways, in conclusion and I'll put this in bold in case people didn't want to read my long-winded post (which is I'm guessing everyone but Brian haha)
I'm flying to Las Vegas tomorrow. I will be taking off at 8:30 AM, I have a layover in Denver and then I'll be landing in Vegas at 12:45 west time so it'll be nearing the end of the work day for you guys. I know the draft generally slows down badly during the weekend, but I will have my phone on me all weekend, and brought my laptop just in case for the hotel room. If I'm near picking when I take off tomorrow morning I will leave a couple guys in a queue. If that get's dismantled, I'll make sure to pick as soon as I touch down in Denver. Thanks guys.

P.S. You guys just let me get Austin Jackson in Round 9. You're all the best. Thanks.

And thanks for the heads up about tomorrow. I think you would pick from the bathroom in the plane if you could get a signal.
Re: ACS Hackers 2013 draft discussion.
Too many picks away for aqueue I'd feel strong about. If up I will pick on my denver layover.
Re: ACS Hackers 2013 draft discussion.
Kevin - I would have bet my paycheck you would take Ike Davis. I was actually torn between him and Ryan Howard as my first baseman a round and a 1/2 ago. Great value at 126. Could put up numbers similar to 1Bs taken in the 3rd and 4th rounds. I'm hoping Howard can do the same.
Re: ACS Hackers 2013 draft discussion.
Nice! yeah.. I was hoping Howard would come back to me when I bypassed him to take Melky, so I liked your pick.. I was torn between the 3 of them, and was happy to settle with whoever made it back to me..Wrigbone wrote:Kevin - I would have bet my paycheck you would take Ike Davis. Wilin Rosario could prove to be a great pick too. They really like him out here. I was planning to take him as my catcher late when we started the draft but I just though Carlos Santana was about as sure a thing as you can get from the C spot and couldn't pass him up.
Hey Claudio - isn't this about the time you do your half-draft evaluations?

Was thinking that myself Wrigs - as we wait for Slash to pick, I'll post something up later tonight
